WEATHER REPORT: WARM AND WINDY, THEN COOL

Dusty skies on Friday afternoon.
In another week of no precipitation, the Roscoe area experienced some warm and windy weather leading up to the weekend, followed by cooler temperatures with lighter winds.

Thursday’s high of 78°F was the high for the week, followed by Friday’s 75°.  Those warm temperatures, however, were accompanied by high winds. On Thursday the sustained southwest winds were about 20-23mph with gusts up to 29, but on Friday they kicked up to 28mph with gusts up to 37. They brought with them enough dust to change the color of the sky from blue to a dull red, which is unusual for this time of year. Saturday’s winds were just as high, if not higher, with sustained winds up to 28mph and gusts up to 41.

Saturday’s high of 65° fell to Sunday’s 57° and Monday’s 52°, while lows also fell steadily from Friday morning’s 53° to Monday’s 36° and this morning’s 31°. These cooler days were actually nicer to be out in, though, because skies were sunny, and the wind dropped to less than 10mph on Sunday, Monday, and yesterday when it was often under 5mph and relatively calm.

The forecast is for continued cool weather today and tomorrow, becoming even cooler than that on Friday and Saturday when north winds blow in and highs don’t rise above 38°. Rain and cloudy skies are back in the forecast for later today and tomorrow, Friday, and Saturday with the chances for precipitation 20% today, 40% tomorrow, 100% Friday, and 70% Saturday. On Saturday, there is also a possibility of ice and freezing rain, so the Christmas lights on the houses around town may be accompanied by icicles.

On Sunday and Monday, the sun will be back out, but the highs will rise to only 46° and 52° while the lows remain cool at 26° and 36° respectively.
